Patient Access

We aim to provide a personal service. It is sensible to see the same doctor whenever possible.

You may book an appointment either in person, or by telephoning the surgery between 08:00 and 18:30. The Health Care Navigator will try and give you the appointment that is most appropriate to your needs. This may be with a GP, and Advanced Nurse Practitioner or a Practice Nurse. It may be appropriate to signpost you to a pharmacist too.

In order to help manage the increasing demand for appointments, at busy times we operate a triage system whereby you may be given an option to talk to an experienced nurse practitioner by phone in order to assess your needs. After this has occurred the nurse practitioner will decide to either:

  • Invite the patient to attend the surgery to see her.
  • Make an urgent appointment to see a GP that same day.
  • Make an urgent appointment to see a practice nurse that same day.
  • Make a non-urgent / routine appointment to see a doctor when the next routine appointment becomes available.
  • Make a non-urgent / routine appointment to see a practice nurse when the next routine appointment becomes available.

If your problem is urgent, please tell the receptionist and one of the doctors or our nurse practitioner will see you as soon as possible. If you phone for an urgent appointment, you may be put through to the nurse practitioner and they will be able to advise you themselves, or make arrangements for you to be seen by the most appropriate person.

It is helpful if you book follow-up appointments as you leave the surgery. Likewise please book routine appointments well in advance. You can register to book your appointments on-line. Please ask us and we will support you to register to d this if you need us to.

Click on the link below for some information on why the Health Care Navigator asks you some questions before you book an appointment.

Aylmer Lodge Cookley Partnership would like to invite you to join DoctorLink.

We have been looking at how we can improve access to Practice services; DoctorLink is our new online service where you can access advice and appointments on line.

Registration is simple and you can register here:

For all urgent appointments, we ask that you undertake a symptom assessment through DoctorLink.

The symptom checker will ask you a number of questions to help to identify your problem.

The outcome of your assessment will direct you to the right treatment, whether emergency care, your GP, nurse or self care.

If your outcome indicates that an appointment is required, you simply click on the request appointment link.

Once the request has been submitted, you will then be contacted by the Practice Team, to arrange an appointment within the identified timeframe (as outlined in the outcome of your symptom checker).

The information you provide will be shared with our clinical team (where appropriate) and will assist in providing robust information of your problem to the required clinical team member prior to your appointment.

You can even download the App:

Emergency Appointments

In case of requiring an urgent appointment during the day ring 01562 822015. A practice doctor is always on duty between the hours of 08:00 and 18:30 on weekdays.

Telephone Consultations

We also have the facility for book ahead and book on the day telephone consultations. These can be particularly useful for patients who want advice or who are being followed up by a GP for a condition that does not require face to face contact. If you want to be seen on the same day we advise ou to contact us first thing in the morning.

Late Evening Appointments

Each Monday evening we offer ‘extended hours’ surgeries with routine pre-bookable appointments up until 8pm.

These are particularly aimed at patients who are in work or education during the day.

On Wednesday and Thursday we have pre-bookable appointments up to 8pm. These are part of the 8-8 service that we offer our patients. You may be seen by a GP from another local practice but all information gathered during your appointment will be passed securely to your own GP.

Home Visits

If you ask for a home visit you will speak to a doctor personally. It helps us plan our workload if you ring before 10:00. Home visits are reserved for those patients who are housebound and medically unfit to leave the house.

Please note that home visits are done at the discretion of the doctors so please do not request a visit unless the patient is genuinely too ill to get to the surgery.

Please remember, that in the case of children who have fevers or rashes, the problem can usually be dealt with more quickly and efficiently in the surgery and any treatment prescribed can be collected at the same time if we dispense for you.

Cancellations & Reminders

Cancel an Appointment

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.

If you have received a reminder via text message you can cancel by responding CANCEL to this message.

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.

Extended Access

In addition to the practice’s normal opening hours you can also book an appointment to see a local clinician in the evenings or at the weekend in Kidderminster.

GP practices are working together to provide extended access appointments to our patients.  This means that our extended access appointment may be with a different GP, nurse or based in a different location or practice than you are used to, and some of these appointments are telephone only.

These appointments are pre-bookable by contacting the surgery during our opening times – our receptionists will help you to find a convenient appointment.
